How training attendance works
What this records
Two separate things, deliberately kept apart. Attendance is whether someone was actually present — for Teams trainings this comes from Microsoft's own attendance report, not from anything a person types. A signature is the worker's own acknowledgement that they attended and understood the material.
Keeping them separate is the point. Presence alone does not show anyone acknowledged the training. A signature alone can be given by someone who never attended. Holding both lets you see where they disagree.
What each status means
Setting up a course
A course is the training itself — "Fall Protection – Annual". You create it once, under Courses, and every time it is delivered it attaches to that same record. That is what will let you ask "who has had Fall Protection this year?" and get a real answer — that view does not exist yet.
The attestation text is what each attendee reads before signing. Editing it applies to future sessions only — past records keep the exact wording the people who signed them actually saw.
Recording a training held in person
On Sessions, choose Record a training. Pick the course, the date it was held, and search for each person who attended.
Everyone you add is recorded as Recorded by Safety. You are recording that they attended — you are not signing on their behalf, and the system will not let anyone do that.
Training run through Teams
Not available yet. When it is, the instructor adds the Safety Training app to their own Teams meeting, picks the course from a list, and posts a sign-in card into the meeting chat. Attendees click once to sign, and their attendance is checked against Microsoft's report automatically.
The course still has to exist here first — the instructor chooses from your catalogue rather than typing a name, so the same training does not end up recorded three different ways.
